The founder of Ebara Corporation

Mr. Issei Hatakeyama was founder and
an outstanding businessman.

Mr. Issei Hatakeyama was born in Kanazawa City, Ishikawa Prefecture, in 1881 (Meiji 14). He studied mechanical engineering at Tokyo Imperial University, where he studied under Dr. Ariya Inokuty, an authority on hydraulics and applied mechanics and also conducted research on pumps. In 1912, Mr. Hatakeyama established the Inokuty Type Machinery Office (the predecessor of Ebara Corporation) to apply the theories of Dr. Inokuty to commercial businesses.

At the beginning of the establishment, the office had no production site and was in financial straits, so Mr. Hatakeyama could only concentrate on the research and development of pumps, and maintained the operation of the office by providing technology to customers, and produced a few fine products through outsourcing factories. As Mr. Hatakeyama's products gradually gained reputations in the industry and order number increased, he established the Nippori Factory 3 years after office's establishment. Although Nippori factory was small in size, it was famous for producing centrifugal pumps with a caliber of 760 mm and 1,140 mm for use in waterworks. In 1920, Mr. Hatakeyama formally established a new factory and expanded product range. Since the factory was located in Ebara-gun, Tokyo, the new factory was named Ebara Corporation.

Since its establishment, Ebara Corporation has been contributing to the preservation and improvement of society and the global environment by supplying a wide range of products that support the development of social infrastructures, industrial development, and human life to customers around the world.
